| Yesterday's debate between
Armenia's two presidential candidates, President Robert Kocharian
and challenger Stepan Demirchian, was a historic first - for
Armenia and for the CIS. For the first time since the fall of
the USSR, a presidential campaign included a live, face-to-face
presidential debate between two real contenders.
The two-hour long session was moderated by Public Television's
Arthur Bakhtamian, host of the popular Midnight Express talk
show. Both candidates answered questions directed at them
by six television news anchors. Topics included the elections
themselves, foreign relations, economic development and social
issues. |
