Armenia Expands Economy 7.5% in January-February

Yerevan. (Interfax) - Armenia upped its GDP 7.5% year-on- year in January-February 2003 to 111.7 billion dram, the national statistics service told Interfax.

GDP increased 15.4% from the previous month in January.

Industrial production rose 7.9% in January-February to 58.3 billion dram and was 2.8% up from January in February.

Foreign trade amounted to $254 million, a rise of 21.2% from January-February 2002. Exports increased 11.1% to $85.5 million and imports went up 27.1% to $168.5 million.

Retail trade turnover rose 10.4% to 76.3 billion.

Consumer prices slipped 1.5% from the previous month in February and rose 2.5% in the first two months.

The official exchange rate on April 11 stood at 588.88 dram/$1.
