The Museum opened in 1973. The ground floor displays works of the prominent sculptor Ara Sargsyan, including photographs of the artist’s early works (portraits, group sculptures) deposited at the Vienna Mekhitarian Order and in private collections. Other halls contain works from the Soviet period (of special interest are "Mother Armenia", "Sahak Partev and Mesrop Mashtotz", "Hiroshima", as well as busts of Suren Spandaryan, Stepan Shahumyan, Avet Avetisyan, Vardan Ajemyan, Valeri Bryusov, Raffi, "King Artavazd", etc.) No style or genre of sculpture was overlooked by the artist: monumentalism, large bas-reliefs and portraits integrated into architectural complexes, topical compositions and busts.

The H. Kojoyan exhibition located on the second floor is based on the donations of his relatives and later augmented with numerous other items. The four halls of the exhibition display more than 250 works of the prominent artist, as well as his personal belongings and books he illustrated. His original illustrations for books included those by E. Charents, A. Bakunts, M. Gorki, A. Vshtuni, S. Zoryan and others. Also on display are his "Self-Portrait", "Aparan Village", "Garni Canyon", "Birth of David of Sasun", and other paintings. The museum organizes exhibitions of Kojoyan's works kept in private collections, meetings with students of the Kojoyan Art College and other events.

The main exposition consists of about 40 works by Armenian painters (Hakob Hakobyan, Panos Terlemezyan, Grigor Khanjyan, Harutyun and Armineh Kalentz, Lavinia Bajbeuk-Melikyan, Rudolf Khachatryan, etc.). The museum also hosts seasonal exhibitions of local artists.
