Poor governance contributes to poverty - experts
TertAm Inflation and high poverty are the results of bad governance, Armenian experts find.
Speaking at a news conference on Friday, Aharon Adibekyan, the president of the Sociometer Sociological Center, and expert Harutyun Mesrobyan addressed the current socio-economic situation in Armenia, proposing ways of settling the existing problems.
"As a nation, we are psychologically strong and are used to deprivation, so maintaining the inflation on a certain level is a kind of carte blanche for the authorities," Adibekyan said.
The sociologist said neither blockade nor scarcity of resources could be seen as factors contributing to poverty.
"It is the quality of a country's governance that tigers poverty," he added.
Agreeing that poor governance contributes to inflation, Mesrobyan also spoke of the situation in the global economy.
He said that the world countries are still experiencing the crisis impact, and as a most flagrant example, referred to the increasing of the prices on gold.
He said that the situation on the global level affected Armenia as well.
"The governance in Armenia has been suffering collapse since 2010," he said, adding that the authors of the 2010 had made inaccurate forecasts on the possible inflation rate.
