Cosmopolitan Competition: Armenia Eurovision finalist song of Turkish origin
ArmeniaNow The author of one of the four songs bidding for presenting Armenia at Eurovision 2011, is Turkish singer and songwriter Martin Kesici.
Seventy songs bid for the Armenian Eurovision song; the Art Council of the Armenian Public Television chose four (Armenian songwriter Vahram Petrosyan’s, Apricota’s, Der Hova’s and German-based songwriter Kesici’s).
According to various internet sources, Kesici is a Turkish singer and songwriter, who was born in Berlin, Germany. If his song, “Goodbye”, should be chosen, it would be the first time Armenia would be represented by a song not penned by an Armenian composer.
ArmeniaNow tried to contact head of the Eurovision Armenian office Gohar Gasparyan, to ask whether judges who chose the song were aware that it was not of Armenian origin. Our call was not returned.
Voting for the song representing Armenia in Eurovision will take place on March 5, when the Armenian TV audience and a jury will select the best song. Eurovision 2011 will take place on May 10, in Dusseldorf, Germany, where Armenia will be represented by singer Emmy (Bejanyan).
