Bus Solution: New vehicles from China hoped to improve public transport in capital
ArmeniaNow -- Yerevan will have 249 new buses beginning in February, as announced in Thursday’s Government meeting by Mayor Taron Margaryan.
The buses are coming from China, and, while intended to replace older ones, the general purchase is part of an overall plan to decrease the number of mini buses in the capital, while increasing the number of full-size buses. Over the years traffic in Yerevan has become a major concern, and the hundreds of “marshrutkas” (Russian for minibuses) clogging intersections morning till night is seen as a cause of generally clogged traffic flow.
