Not Going Back to School: Former presidential candidate Manukyan says not interested in becoming lawmaker
ArmeniaNow -- The leader of the National Democratic Union, Vazgen Manukyan, says he has no plans to run for parliament in May.
“For me, becoming a lawmaker is like going to school for the first time,” he told Tert.am on Wednesday, when asked to comment on the media reports that the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) is not going to register him as a candidate in its majority list.
Manukyan, who is also the president of Armenia’s Public Council, dismissed the reports, saying that he is against the idea of being elected to parliament.
“I am strongly against becoming a lawmaker. I don’t understand why [the media] try to pave my way to parliament, alleging my enrollment in different parties’ lists,” he said.
Manukyan added that even if his party ran for election with a single-ticket, he would have his named removed from the candidates’ list.
