Russia, Armenia sign five agreements

news_img_15420787_0006Itar-Tass Russia and Armenia signed several documents on cooperation, including cooperation in defence and in nuclear energy.

Presidents of the two countries were present as defence ministers of Russia and Armenia signed a protocol on prolongation of the agreement on Russia’s military base in Armenia.

Earlier, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said that the amended clause envisaged prolongation of the agreement signed back in 1995. Initially, the agreement was to be valid for 25 years, whereas now it will remain in force for 49 years beginning from 1995, or through to 2044. the new agreement will say clearly that “the Russian military base jointly with Armenia’s military forces will provide the republic’s security.”

“The Russian side will supply to Armenia armoury and modern defence technologies,” Nalbandian said.

Besides, the two countries signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in construction of new energy blocks for the nuclear power plant in Armenia. The document was inked by head of Rosatom, Sergei Kiriyenko and Armenia’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Arman Movsesyan.

Russia and Armenia agreed on mutual establishment of trade representations. The document was signed by Deputy Minister of Economic Development Andrei Slepnev and Armenia’s Minister of Economy Yeritsyan.

The sides signed an intergovernmental agreement on readmission and an executive protocol on the implementation of the intergovernmental agreement on readmission. They also signed a memorandum on mutual understanding between Federal Defence and Technical Cooperation Service and Armenia’s Defence Ministry on cooperation in organising certified service centres in Armenia and joint ventures to repair and maintain armament and defence technology.
