After I returned from Yerevan last year, we put into place a project to gather 300 wheel chairs (per ANI) the total number of wheel chairs needed in Armenia today.
I approached my fraternal organization of Rotary International and now my club (Laconia Rotary), our district (District 7870) and our national headquarters of Rotary International have set into motion a plan to bring this endeavor to fruition.
The startup money is in place and we have already started to gather some of the donated items in the form of other medical equipment. The containers and shipment from the USA to Yerevan have been donated by another Diaspora group.
This project has been presented to the Yerevan Rotary Club and they have agreed to support it in the form of accepting and helping to distribute the equipment in conjunction with the efforts and over sight of UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). There will be no cost or need for funds from these two organizations. The cost will be underwritten in the USA by the Laconia Rotary Club and it's District Governor and Rotary International. Persons interested in helping out or participating in any way can get in touch with this writer (Abraham Dadian) at this e-mail address ajob4u@inc-net.com.
It is our intention, and so far it has worked well, to approach hospitals, clinics and nursing homes for usable wheel chairs that have been replaced by newer equipment. Many organizations are looking for a place to donate these items for totally altruistic reasons and they may also benefit from charitable donations for tax purposes.
Your participation is invited and encouraged.
