PROGRAM INFORMATION

The ArmeniaDiaspora.com Official Web Site works under auspices of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Armenia and had been organized after First Armenia-Diaspora Conference in September 22-23, 1999, in Yerevan. Since then ArmeniaDiaspora.com Official Web Site became a bridge connecting Armenia and the Diaspora.

Knowledgeable, passionate, energetic college students are welcome to apply for internships within the ArmeniaDiaspora.com Official Web Site office. Knowledge of languages is very useful, as is a patient and flexible disposition. Interns may express a preference for a specific type of task, but the final assignment rests with the ADC Office Manager.

Internships (lasting a minimum of 6 weeks) are available to select college students throughout the year. Applications can be downloaded, or printed and completed and returned, together with a personal statement and two letters of recommendation. An applicant will receive a response within 6 weeks.

Souvenirs and incidental expenses

VISA IS PROVIDED FREE UPON ACCEPTANCE TO THE PROJECT.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE EXPECTED DURATION OF THE INTERNSHIP?
In order to be meaningful for the intern and for the ArmeniaDiaspora.com Official Web Site office, the internship should last a minimum of six weeks. Longer is also possible, and in some cases preferable.

WHAT DUTIES I WILL BE ASSIGNED?
Duties of the internship will vary depending on the needs of the ArmeniaDiaspora.com Official Web Site office and assigned tasks, and the capacity and interest of the student.

HOW LONG ARE WORKDAYS?
Work hours are generally from 10:00 am until 5 pm, with a break for lunch. If there are specific projects, conferences, deadlines, interns are expected to stay and help meet deadlines. On the other hand, part of the reason for doing this internship is to live and experience Armenia, and the ArmeniaDiaspora.com Official Web Site office is prepared to be flexible to accommodate an intern’s needs.

WILL I BE WORKING WITH OTHER INTERNS?
Sometimes, but not always. It depends on the task assigned, and the time of year.

IS THERE A DRESS CODE AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS?
Formal attire is required at all times. Jeans and t-shirts are not acceptable even in the hot summers.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME TO WORK?
Nothing specific is necessary, unless you feel you would like to bring your own lap-top, or a favorite dictionary.

IS READING AND WRITING ARMENIAN A REQUIREMENT?
Reading and writing Armenian is not required, but is always a plus.

IS THERE ANY SORT OF COMPENSATION?
There is no financial compensation or assistance provided. This is a non-paid internship. Compensation comes in the form of experience gained.

HOW LONG IS APPLICATION PROCESS FOR THE INTERNSHIP?
You will receive an answer within 6 weeks of filing your application. There are no standard internship periods.

DO I INCLUDE THE RECOMMENDATION LETTERS ALONG WITH THE APPLICATION?
It is best to provide as much material as possible with the application.

IS THERE AN INTERVIEW PHASE?
There is either an in-person or a telephone interview prior to a selection decision being made.

WHERE WILL I LIVE WHILE INTERNING AT THE FOREIGN MINISTRY?
Room and board are not provided through the internship program. We can provide help in helping you look for appropriate lodging.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO LIVE IN YEREVAN?
Rent in the center of Yerevan for a one bedroom ranges about $ 200 and up.

HOW MUCH DOES AN AVERAGE MEAL COST AT A RESTAURANT IN YEREVAN?
An average meal costs around 1500.00 AMD which is the approximately of $3.00 dollars. Meal prices can drastically rise depending on personal taste.

WHERE DO I GET AN ARMENIAN VISA?
Everyone, except citizens of the Republic of Armenia, needs a visa to enter Armenia. Visas are available at the airport, upon arrival, at a cost of $35. Alternatively, Armenian embassies and consulates around the world provide visas. Finally, a visa application can be filed on-line (www.armeniaforeignministry.com) and a visa can be issued electronically within 48 hours. In all cases, once an intern arrives in Armenia, the visa period (normally 21 days) will need to be extended. That service will be provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
